Clever of some woMAN for coming up with the idea to use a man’s trouser hangers to hang a PHO-TOE! Think about it, it’s an ingenious way to suspend photographs of loved ones or party banners of some sort giving it that creative old school vibe. Even though I’d like to tip my hat to the thinking out of the box originator of this idea, it still leaves me feeling a bit emasculated!
Traveling thru history of mankind, a man’s clothing was THE distinguishing trademark separating men from any other creature. Pants were the one iconic piece of clothing that represented masculinity and was respectfully treated as such! Therefore, thankful are we for the invention of the gentleman’s pant hanger.
The Setwell pant hanger was patented on April 24th, 1934 by F.K. Deknatel. The Setwell was a definite closet must have for any man of style back in the day. Even though numerous replicas have been produced and used properly throughout the years, one only has to compare new to old to see how superior the Setwell hanger remains.
So with all that useless bit of information shared, it’s safe to say as trends come and go like hanging photographs with pant hangers, it’s a well-hung pair of trousers that will always be the standard by which MANkind is judged.
Who the heck is Alex Calderwood you ask?!? After my jaw dropping discovery of his vision, I’d say he is only the coolest dude on the planet!!! Alex Calderwood is the founder and imaginative mind behind a copious of successful ventures including Rudy’s, the retro hip barbershop concept and the boutique ACE Hotel chain.
The 40ish year old former warehouse party promoter and self proclaimed cultural engineer has a definite attraction to all things vintage which he resurrects into urban chic money makers. Using all things from times past in the design aesthetic of both the barbershops and hotels, team Calderwood establishments present an innovative and interesting approach to interiors.
Everything is going to be alright. LOVE that!
I find this humorous! Don't you?!
A Reynolds Still favorite!
Let's get lost, how appropriate!
I wanna be Alex Calderwood! A man with a vision and a creative point of view!

99 gentlemen’s posts on my blog, 99 gentlemen’s post!
I’ll add one more with a thousand new ones in store,
But for now I have 100 gentlemen’s posts on my blog!
What a pleasure it has been for me to share with you all my creative vision of a gentleman’s point of view. I am truly grateful for all the wonderful comments and emails I’ve received at Reynolds Still as well as all the new friendships I’ve made. You’ve all inspired me more than you know!!! As always…..
I’ve been looking around of late for new spaces, something smaller…a bit cozier. Now when I say cozy, I don’t necessarily mean I want to live in a cardboard box with cut out windows and curtains drawn with crayons. I’m trying to get out of a box, not back in one!!! So in my search for this intimate real estate, I’ve toured smaller homes, loft apartments and those forgotten diminutive downtown buildings. Nothing ever seemed like the right space and the search had truly started to affect my creative groove. Luckily I discovered an incredible renovation by the design team of Marshall Watson and Jeffery Kilmer. I NEVER even thought to look for a garage!
Truly inspired by this garage renovation, I have a new vision and admiration for thinking outside the CUT OUT BOX! I definitely could be comfortable in this cozy space.
