You Gotta Start Somewhere…

No. 1
Every look at something and wonder how we got from here to there? Many times we don’t even bother unfortunately, to stop and appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into things so handsomely refined.

No. 2
I was looking at the master work of interior artist Mark Hampton and what caught my attention in the above image was the webbed backed chair sitting next to the bust on column near the doorway. Even though it’s a functional piece of furniture, it really makes an artistic statement all its own. After studying its detail, my eye began to wonder the room thinking about the other pieces of furniture and what it takes to create each piece as designer Mark Hampton had envisioned. That’s when I found Kayel De Angelis.

No. 3
Kayel De Angelis is a the third generation high-end custom furniture craftsman. Founded more than sixty years ago by Kayel’s grandfather, Guido De Angelis, this family owned business has earned a loyal following of respected decorators including the likes of Albert Hadley, Mark Hampton and Peter Marino. Looking over their many examples of furnishings, I can understand why they have such a well respected reputation for producing quality pieces.

Muse Me!

With summer fast upon my heels, you’ll probably begin to see many posts on Reynolds Still with regard to the great out of doors. As most of my friends and family know, I find great entertainment and relaxation becoming one with nature. In between times of the many exhausted yet rewarding hours planting, trimming and watering, I somehow find the time to spend many a day exploring for more and more inspiration to continue my quest of designing my own Garden of Eden! With that said, I want to share with my bloggies one of my most favorite muses, the gardens of The Mount!

Portrait Of A Man

Portrait of a Man 1928
Portrait of a Man is a creative masterpiece portraying Tadeusz de Lempicka, husband of Deco glam artist Tamara De Lempicka.

Portrait of Doctor Boucard 1928

Portrait of Pierre de Montaut1931

Portrait of Prince Eristoff 1925

Portrait of His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Gabriel 1926

Portrait of Saint Anthony 1936

It is unusual for a female artist to achieve any standing in an art world dominated by men, but Tamara de Lempicka's clear, strong style often called ‘Soft Cubism’ has earned her a place at the top of the Art Deco movement. Born in Poland in 1898, she later fled to Paris in 1917 during the Russian Revolution where she took up art to earn a living. Even though Lempicka's strong use of color and sharp edged forms produced very solid, powerful figures, De Lempicka’s technique portrayed more a fresh yet elegant view of her subjects. As taken as I was with her art, I was as much intrigued with her personal life. A work of art in itself! Click HERE to read a short bio of this very creative soul!

Hot Brown!

With the Kentucky Derby only a couple of days in front of us, let me serve up a derby tradition you’ve gotta experience on race day.

Kentucky Hot Browns
Created in 1926 by chef Fred K Schmidt at the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, this popular menu item quickly became a Kentucky food favorite without surprise rich in delectable ingredients. Many variations of the recipe have been served up over the years but the original is definitely the way to go.

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup butter
• 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
• 3 cups milk
• 6 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
• 1 egg, beaten
• 2 tablespoons heavy cream
• salt and pepper to taste
• 2 pounds sliced roasted turkey
• 1 tomato, sliced
• 8 slices white bread, toasted
• 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 8 slices crispy bacon

Directions
1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour with a whisk or fork then continue to cook and stir until it begins to brown slightly. Gradually whisk in the milk so that no lumps form bringing it to a boil, stirring constantly. Mix in 6 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese then gradually stir in the beaten egg to thicken. Be sure not to allow the sauce to boil once the egg has been mixed in. Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream.

2. While preheating the oven's broiler, prepare the Hot Browns. For each Hot Brown, place two slices of the toasted white bread into the bottom of an individual sized casserole dish. Cover with a liberal amount of roasted turkey then the tomato slices. Spoon sauce over the top of each and sprinkle with the remaining Parmesan cheese.

3. Place the dishes under the broiler and cook until the top begins to brown, about 5 minutes. Remove from the broiler and arrange two slices of bacon in a cross shape on top of each sandwich. Serve immediately.

Eat up!

Repeat Offender!

Sometimes things are so visually stimulating, they’re just worth a second look and maybe even third. As I’ve been researching information concerning the most famous horse race in the world, I came across this incredibly masculine interior that was all over the internet and magazines last year. And for all those Reynolds Still groupies, you’re going to LOVE this!

Check out the Hermes' throw over the leather chesterfield and the stacked wood INSIDE the fireplace!

Black walls!!!

Reynolds Still favorite!  The wood floors, the plaid bed cover, the stacked Louis Vuitton and horse prints are exactly the things I surround myself with!
